What Google Meet and Teams offer for Spanish ↔ English
Spanish ↔ English is one of the few pairs Google Meet translates by voice, and Teams Interpreter covers it too, but both need a paid plan. Meet's version also stops after 90 minutes and uses one language pair for the whole meeting.
| Option | Spanish ↔ English? | Details | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Meet speech translation | Yes, voice | English ↔ Spanish is one of Meet's six pairs. Google says translations come a few seconds delayed. | Google AI Pro or Ultra, or Workspace Business Standard and above. One pair per meeting, up to 90 minutes. |
| Google Meet translated captions | Text only | Spanish captions, shown as text. | Workspace Business Standard and above. Not on free Gmail. |
| Teams Interpreter agent | Yes, voice | Spanish and English are both supported. | Microsoft Copilot license; listeners need a Microsoft 365 license. Not in Teams free. |
| Teams live translated captions | Text only | Spanish (Mexico and Spain) speech; Spanish is a translation language. | Teams Premium or Microsoft Copilot (the organizer's license covers everyone). |

Tips for Spanish ↔ English meetings
- Latin America and Spain both work. SottMeet understands Spanish from Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and elsewhere. Regional words differ (computadora / ordenador, carro / coche), so say key product terms clearly once.
- Watch the false friends. “Actualmente” means currently, “eventualmente” means possibly, and “asistir” means to attend. The translation handles them by context, but they're worth a quick check on important points.
- Numbers and dates. Spanish writes 1.500,50 where English writes 1,500.50, and dates go day/month (3/4 = 3 April). Say amounts in words and give the month name to avoid mix-ups.
- Tú or usted. English has no formal “you”, so the Spanish translation picks one from context. Using titles and surnames (Ms. García) keeps the tone formal.
