Spanish ↔ Portuguese real-time voice translation for Google Meet and Teams
Short answer: Yes. SottMeet translates Google Meet and Microsoft Teams (web) calls between Spanish and Portuguese in real time, by voice, in both directions and directly, without going through English, with live subtitles for both sides.
For Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking teams working together, for example across Latin America and Brazil, or Spain and Portugal. You speak Spanish and the other side hears natural Portuguese about a second later, and you hear their Portuguese in Spanish, with subtitles for both sides. It translates directly between the two, works in Google Meet and Microsoft Teams on the web, and only you install it.
What Google Meet and Teams offer for Spanish ↔ Portuguese
Google Meet can't translate Spanish ↔ Portuguese by voice: every Meet speech translation pair has English on one side. Teams Interpreter supports both languages with a Microsoft Copilot license. Both platforms also show text captions on paid plans.
| Option | Spanish ↔ Portuguese? | Details | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Meet speech translation | No | Spanish and Portuguese are both Meet languages, but only paired with English, not with each other. | Google AI Pro or Ultra, or Workspace Business Standard and above. One pair per meeting, up to 90 minutes. |
| Google Meet translated captions | Text only | Spanish and Portuguese captions, shown as text. | Workspace Business Standard and above. Not on free Gmail. |
| Teams Interpreter agent | Yes, voice | Spanish and Portuguese are both supported. | Microsoft Copilot license; listeners need a Microsoft 365 license. Not in Teams free. |
| Teams live translated captions | Text only | Spanish and Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal) speech and translation, as text. | Teams Premium or Microsoft Copilot (the organizer's license covers everyone). |
| SottMeet | Yes, voice + subtitles | Two-way voice about a second after each phrase, plus live subtitles for both sides. Google Meet and Teams on the web; not Zoom or the Teams desktop app. | Any Google account in Chrome. Only you install it; pay per minute. |
Tips for Spanish ↔ Portuguese meetings
- “Portuñol” isn't enough for details. Spanish and Portuguese speakers often half-understand each other, which is exactly where mistakes happen on prices, dates and conditions. Translation removes the guesswork on the points that matter.
- False friends. Exquisito (Spanish: exquisite) and esquisito (Portuguese: weird), embarazada (pregnant) and embaraçada (embarrassed), oficina (office in Spanish, workshop in Portuguese). The translation goes by meaning, not by look-alike words.
- Brazil or Portugal. SottMeet understands both Brazilian and European Portuguese. Some words differ (ônibus / autocarro, celular / telemóvel), so say key product terms clearly once.
- Say the currency. Both languages write 1.500,50, but reais, pesos and euros are easy to mix up. Name the currency every time an amount comes up.
Example: what each side hears
A software company in Argentina and a retail chain in Brazil plan a launch. An illustrative exchange. Each bubble shows what was said and, below it, what the other side hears and reads.

FAQ
Can Google Meet translate Spanish to Portuguese by voice?
No. Meet's speech translation always has English on one side (English ↔ Spanish, English ↔ Portuguese and four others), so Spanish ↔ Portuguese isn't possible. SottMeet translates the two directly.
Does SottMeet go through English?
No. It translates Spanish ↔ Portuguese directly, so nothing is lost in an extra step, and neither side needs to speak English.
Do both sides need SottMeet?
No. Only one person installs it, and both hear each other translated: you hear them in your language and they hear you in theirs.
Does it work in Microsoft Teams?
Yes, in Teams on the web in Chrome; click “Allow on Teams” in the SottMeet popup once before you join. The Teams desktop app isn't supported, but the other side can use it.
