Thai ↔ Chinese real-time voice translation for Google Meet and Teams
Short answer: Yes. SottMeet translates Google Meet and Microsoft Teams (web) calls between Thai and Mandarin Chinese in real time, by voice, in both directions and directly, without going through English, with live subtitles for both sides.
For Chinese-speaking business owners working with Thai partners, and Thai teams working with Chinese-speaking clients. You speak Thai and the other side hears natural Mandarin about a second later, and you hear their Mandarin in Thai, with subtitles for both sides. It translates directly between the two, works in Google Meet and Microsoft Teams on the web, and only you install it.
What Google Meet and Teams offer for Thai ↔ Chinese
Neither platform translates Thai ↔ Chinese by voice: Google Meet's speech translation always needs English and doesn't include Thai or Chinese, and Teams Interpreter doesn't support Thai. Both offer only text captions on paid plans.
| Option | Thai ↔ Chinese? | Details | What you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Meet speech translation | No | Every Meet pair includes English, and neither Thai nor Chinese is among the six. | Google AI Pro or Ultra, or Workspace Business Standard and above. One pair per meeting, up to 90 minutes. |
| Google Meet translated captions | Text only | Thai and Chinese are both caption languages, shown as text. | Workspace Business Standard and above. Not on free Gmail. |
| Teams Interpreter agent | No | Thai isn't one of Interpreter's nine languages. | Microsoft Copilot license; listeners need a Microsoft 365 license. Not in Teams free. |
| Teams live translated captions | Text only | Thai speech and Chinese translation (and the reverse) as text. | Teams Premium or Microsoft Copilot (the organizer's license covers everyone). |
| SottMeet | Yes, voice + subtitles | Two-way voice about a second after each phrase, plus live subtitles for both sides. Google Meet and Teams on the web; not Zoom or the Teams desktop app. | Any Google account in Chrome. Only you install it; pay per minute. |
Tips for Thai ↔ Chinese meetings
- Direct, not through English. SottMeet translates Thai ↔ Chinese directly, so nothing is lost in an extra English step. Neither side needs to speak English.
- Buddhist Era years. Thai dates often use the Buddhist Era (พ.ศ. 2569 = 2026). For contracts and deadlines, say the Western year or confirm it in the chat.
- Nicknames and คุณ. Thais usually go by first names or nicknames with คุณ (คุณนิด), while Chinese speakers use surnames (王總). Agree at the start how you'll address each other.
- Two tonal languages. Both Thai and Mandarin are tonal. Speak at a normal pace in full phrases; mumbled single words are the main cause of mix-ups.
- Baht, yuan and 萬. Name the currency with every amount, and repeat figures in the tens of thousands, since Chinese counts in 萬 (10,000) and Thai in หมื่น and แสน.
Example: what each side hears
A Thai fruit exporter and a Taiwanese importer plan a durian shipment. An illustrative exchange. Each bubble shows what was said and, below it, what the other side hears and reads.
