Tips for Korean ↔ English meetings
- Titles instead of names. Koreans often address people by title (부장님, 대표님). These may come out as “Director” or as Mr./Ms. plus surname, so introduce everyone's full name and role once.
- Many Kims and Lees. With several people sharing a surname, use full names (김민수 님) so the English side knows who is meant.
- 만 and 억. Korean counts in 10,000s (5만 원 = 50,000 won) and 100 millions (3억 = 300 million). Say the currency and repeat large figures.
- Endings carry the meaning. Like Japanese, Korean puts the verb and negation at the end. Short sentences and a clear 네 / 아니요 on important points avoid misunderstandings.
Example: what each side hears
A Korean cosmetics brand and a US retailer discuss samples. An illustrative exchange. Each bubble shows what was said and, below it, what the other side hears and reads.

FAQ
Can Google Meet translate Korean by voice?
No. Meet's speech translation only pairs English with French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish. Meet can show Korean translated captions as text on Workspace Business Standard and above.
Does Teams Interpreter support Korean?
Yes, with a Microsoft Copilot license, and listeners need a Microsoft 365 license. SottMeet works on Teams for the web with no Microsoft license.
Does it keep 존댓말 (polite speech)?
The meaning comes through, but the speech level in Korean is chosen from context, so it can differ from what you would choose yourself. Use titles and keep key requests explicit.
